A new top grade for Yamaha's 33-foot fishing boat

Yamaha announced the YFR330 Premium Line on 18 September 2026 as a higher-grade version of the flagship fishing boat introduced in 2024. The underlying fishing and running platform remains, while the cabin receives upgraded wood-effect detailing, dedicated seating, carpeting and other changes intended to improve comfort.

The addition expands the YFR330 family to three grades in the Japanese market: Standard, A Package and Premium Line. For owners, the distinction is therefore not simply cosmetic because the higher specifications also bring additional manoeuvring and control features aimed at docking, station keeping and fishing.

Wireless Station moves control away from the fixed helm

The most unusual option is Yamaha's Wireless Station, which uses a dedicated wireless controller so the operator can command forward, reverse, lateral movement and rotation by joystick from different positions aboard. Yamaha says the system can also operate engine start and stop, autopilot functions and HELM MASTER EX station-keeping functions.

That mobility can be useful on a fishing boat when the driver needs a better view of the stern, a berth or activity alongside the boat. It does not remove the need for a proper lookout, but it can give the operator a more suitable position during manoeuvres where the fixed helm has limited sightlines.

HELM MASTER EX, bow thruster and Wave Assist

Premium Line and A Package boats combine HELM MASTER EX with the bow thruster, allowing coordinated low-speed movement and rotation through the joystick. Yamaha also links its SetPoint position-holding function with the thruster so the system can help maintain position and heading when wind or current is working against the boat.

Another addition is Wave Assist, which Yamaha says can automatically manage outboard output as the boat crosses waves in order to moderate unwanted pitching or jumping. These systems are aids rather than substitutes for seamanship, so owners will still need to understand their limits and practise manual control.

Why it is relevant to serious leisure anglers

At 10.10 metres, the YFR330 sits firmly in the larger leisure-boat category while remaining below the 12-metre LBG ceiling. The combination of fishing space, cabin comfort and more flexible low-speed control reflects how modern fishing boats are increasingly expected to handle family cruising and social use as well as dedicated angling.

The strongest practical benefit may be the ability to choose a control position that suits the job being done, particularly when berthing or working a fishing area. Buyers should still compare total installed cost, service support and the complexity of integrated electronic systems against a simpler conventional helm before deciding whether the technology matches their boating.
