Safety recognition in Indiana

Yamaha Marine Precision Propellers became a certified participant in Indiana’s Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program, known as INSHARP. The programme recognises employers that exceed normal workplace safety and health expectations.

The certification placed the Indianapolis operation among a relatively small group of recognised sites in the state. Yamaha said the award reflected its commitment to employee wellbeing as well as manufacturing quality.

How INSHARP works

INSHARP is administered by the Indiana Department of Labor’s INSafe division and is linked to the federal Safety and Health Achievement Recognition Program. It is intended for workplaces that demonstrate strong safety systems and continuous improvement.

Certification therefore involves more than a single inspection or award submission. Companies must show that safety practices are embedded in how the facility operates.

A specialist propeller operation

YPPI designs and manufactures stainless-steel propellers for Yamaha outboards and produces hundreds of different propeller variants. That range exists because boats, engines and operating conditions require different diameter, pitch and blade combinations.

Propeller manufacturing involves foundry, machining and finishing processes where robust safety systems are essential. Recognition of those systems is therefore directly relevant to the people working in the facility.

Why it matters to the marine supply chain

For LBG readers, the announcement offers a look behind the finished product. Safe, stable manufacturing operations help support consistent supply and quality across the wider boating market.

Workplace safety is rarely visible in a propeller catalogue, but it is part of responsible manufacturing. INSHARP certification gives an external measure of how seriously that responsibility is being managed.
