A new regional sales role

Yamaha U.S. Marine Business Unit has appointed Matt Lester as Regional Sales Manager. His role is focused on dealer growth and sales performance across the region assigned to him.

Regional managers sit between the manufacturer and individual dealerships, translating national sales strategy into local support. They also feed dealer experience back into the wider organisation.

Career built inside the dealer network

Lester joined Yamaha in 2012 in the call centre before moving into Dealer Sales as a Regional Sales Coordinator. He later became District Marketing Manager and led dealer-marketing initiatives in Yamaha’s home state of Georgia.

That progression gives him experience with both day-to-day dealer needs and wider marketing programmes. The company says his institutional knowledge and sales leadership were factors in the appointment.

Why dealer support matters

Most leisure boat owners buy and service outboards through local dealers rather than directly from a manufacturer. The quality of that relationship can shape everything from engine selection to installation, warranty work and future repowering.

Manufacturers therefore rely on regional teams to help dealers maintain product knowledge and commercial performance. Strong support can be especially important for smaller dealerships balancing sales with seasonal service demand.

A people-driven part of the industry

Boatbuilding and engine technology attract much of the attention in marine news, but dealer networks remain essential to getting products onto the water. Appointments such as this show how manufacturers invest in the commercial infrastructure behind the equipment.

For customers, the effect is usually indirect but important. Better-supported dealers are more likely to provide accurate advice, quicker responses and a consistent ownership experience.
