Two nominations put the 28 T-Top in different judging programmes
Wellcraft says the 28 T-Top has been nominated for the 2026 Best of Boats Award in the Best for Fun category and for the 2027 European Power Boat of the Year in the Up to 10 Meter category. The nominations come from separate award programmes with different judging formats and timetables.
A nomination is not the same as an award win, so owners should treat the recognition as evidence that the model has attracted industry attention rather than as a final verdict on the boat. Results will depend on the respective judging panels and the competing boats in each category.
The boat measures 8.51 metres overall
The 28 T-Top measures 8.51 metres overall and uses Wellcraft's stepped hull with the company's W.I.S.E. construction method. The design combines a high-freeboard centre-console layout with a one-level walkaround deck, closed transom, dive door and protective T-top.
That combination targets owners who want offshore capability without moving into a larger cruiser. The size also keeps the model within a segment where marina space, trailering options in some markets and overall running costs can remain more manageable than on significantly larger boats.
Engine choices range from 250hp to twin 200hp
Wellcraft currently lists Mercury outboard choices including a single 250hp V8 Verado, single 300hp V8, single 350hp V10 or twin 200hp V6 FourStroke installation. The different packages allow buyers to trade outright performance against weight, purchase cost and redundancy.
Owners should compare realistic cruise consumption and service requirements rather than selecting power solely from the top-speed potential. A twin-engine installation can provide additional manoeuvring control and redundancy, but it also adds weight, maintenance and fuel-system complexity.
Awards can help buyers identify boats worth inspecting
Shortlists are useful because they highlight models that have attracted attention from experienced marine journalists and testers. They do not replace an owner's own inspection, sea trial or assessment of local dealer support, which often matter more over years of ownership.
For prospective Wellcraft buyers, the nominations provide another reason to compare the 28 T-Top directly with rival sub-10-metre centre consoles. Practical checks should include boarding access, storage, wind protection, helm visibility, seating comfort and how the chosen engine package behaves with a normal family load.
