Victron Energy has released Venus OS v3.80 for its GX monitoring and control platform, with several changes aimed directly at boats. The update expands the GX Boat Page and adds more marine data while also introducing wider energy-management improvements.
The release was published on 22 September 2026 and is available for supported GX devices. Owners should confirm compatibility and backup any custom configuration before updating a working onboard system.
GX Boat Page gains range and regeneration data
The updated Boat Page can now display range estimates, temperature information, regeneration data and shore-power information. That gives electric and hybrid boats a more complete operating picture without requiring the owner to move between several separate screens.
Range estimates remain dependent on battery state, load and recent consumption, so they should be treated as guidance rather than an absolute promise. The extra information is most useful when combined with normal route planning and energy reserves.
NMEA 2000 integration continues to expand
Venus OS v3.80 adds further inbound NMEA 2000 alarm support and improves the flow of marine information into the GX environment. This can help owners centralise power-system status alongside other vessel data on compatible networks.
The release also includes portrait-mode support for remote console use on phones and native EEBUS readout for selected energy devices. Those broader features are not marine-only, but they improve flexibility for boats using Victron equipment as part of a larger onboard energy system.
Opportunity Loads targets surplus solar energy
A major non-marine addition is GX Opportunity Loads, which can automatically direct surplus solar energy to controllable loads. On boats with meaningful solar capacity, that may provide another way to use excess generation rather than leaving it unused once batteries are charged.
For LBG owners, the important point is that software updates can materially change what existing hardware can display and control. The new marine functions make GX systems more informative, but any automation should still be configured conservatively around essential loads and battery limits.
