Nucleo is faster than the current Cerbo
Panbo reports that the Nucleo GX uses processing hardware comparable with Victron's Ekrano GX and offers roughly twice the power of the current Cerbo GX. That extra capacity can help with demanding Venus OS installations using Node-RED or Signal K.
The product is also expected to sell below the Cerbo's price. On paper, that makes it attractive to owners who want more headroom for monitoring and automation without paying for an integrated display.
Several familiar interfaces are missing
The trade-off is that Nucleo omits VE.Bus, HDMI, relays, tank inputs, temperature inputs and digital inputs found on other GX products. Victron positions it primarily for ESS and off-grid systems built around newer RS-series equipment.
Those omissions matter on boats because tank levels, digital alarms, temperature sensors and legacy inverter connections are common. Re-creating them with extra adapters can remove much of the price and simplicity advantage.
Android can provide the display
Nucleo does not include an HDMI output, so Victron points users toward its Android Remote GX Display approach when a dedicated touchscreen is required. The operating system still provides access to the broader Victron monitoring and control environment.
That may suit compact installations where a tablet is already part of the onboard system. Owners should think carefully about power, mounting and whether they want a permanently installed screen before choosing the lower-cost processor.
Panbo says boaters may be better served by the next Cerbo
The review concludes that Nucleo is not primarily a marine replacement for Cerbo GX, despite the stronger processor. Victron also indicated that a more powerful Cerbo-family product aimed directly at marine users is expected.
For LBG owners, the useful lesson is to choose control hardware by interfaces as well as headline processing speed. A cheaper computer can become more expensive if the boat then needs several additional modules to regain missing inputs.
