Professional navigation software takes the 2026 award

NMEA's 2026 results name TIMEZERO Professional v5 as the Software Product of Excellence winner. The award is voted on by marine-electronics professionals and certified installers, recognising a PC navigation platform used across recreational and professional vessels.

For leisure boaters who prefer a dedicated computer at the navigation station, PC software can provide a larger workspace than a single helm display. It can also make route planning, chart management and analysis easier when the boat already carries a suitable onboard computer.

Version 5 links charts with onboard instruments

TIMEZERO lists support for NMEA 0183, NMEA 2000 through a compatible interface and Furuno NavNet navigation data. The software can combine position, depth, heading, wind and AIS information with its chart display, depending on the connected equipment and modules.

That integration can reduce the need to view several separate screens while planning or monitoring a passage. Owners should still retain independent navigation awareness and confirm that connected instruments are supplying sensible data rather than assuming every network value is correct.

Route planning adds depth and tidal context

The platform includes route-management tools, tides, currents and a three-dimensional chart engine, with additional chart and weather options available. TIMEZERO also offers depth-profile and security-cone functions intended to make hazards and shallow water easier to identify during planning.

Electronic route checks are useful decision aids, but they remain dependent on chart quality, vessel settings and the depth data being used. Safe navigation still requires appropriate margins, current notices and local knowledge where conditions change quickly.

A modular approach lets owners tailor the system

TIMEZERO offers optional modules for radar, weather, multibeam sounders, fishing functions and other specialist applications. That allows an installation to start with core navigation and expand according to the boat's use rather than requiring every capability from the outset.

Before choosing a PC-based system, owners should check hardware requirements, screen arrangement, power consumption and backup navigation. A well-integrated computer can be powerful, but it should not become a single point of failure for essential position and chart information.
