A reliable slipway is a gateway to boating for people who do not keep a vessel permanently afloat. Tarbert Harbour in Argyll has announced a £2.2 million project to improve its launch and shoreside facilities.
The development includes a new marina slipway, more car parking and additional vessel hardstanding. It forms part of wider investment in the working harbour and local marine tourism.
Construction is under way
The release identifies Charles Brand as contractor for a £1.6 million construction agreement. The stated target for completion is 5 March 2027, although project schedules can change.
Until work is finished, boat owners should check current access and any temporary restrictions with the harbour. An announced facility is not the same as one already open for use.
Storage and vehicle access matter
A launch ramp works best when there is space to manoeuvre trailers and secure a boat before departure. Parking and hardstanding are therefore central parts of the project, not secondary extras.
A visitor should still check dimensions, tides and local launching arrangements. Different craft and tow vehicles have different requirements.
Investment in a coastal destination
Better infrastructure may support local marine trade as well as visitors arriving with small boats. The benefits will be clearer after the harbour publishes the completed operating arrangements.
