A compact clutch for loads up to 3,000kg

The ZXB is designed to hold ropes from 8mm to 12mm diameter while handling loads up to 3,000kg. Spinlock has packaged that capacity into a low-profile body intended for installations where deck space and weight are both important considerations.

Load capability should always be matched to the actual duty of the line and the structure beneath the clutch. Owners replacing older hardware should check rope diameter, expected peak load, fastener layout and deck reinforcement rather than choosing solely from the published maximum.

Ceramic jaws target secure grip with less rope movement

Spinlock uses ceramic jaw surfaces to create high friction against the rope when the clutch is closed. Replaceable clip-on jaw grips are part of the design, allowing worn gripping components to be renewed without replacing the complete clutch body.

That serviceability can be useful on boats where halyards and control lines see frequent use. Rope condition still matters because glazing, contamination and wear can alter how reliably any clutch holds under load.

Low-friction bearings reduce pull-through resistance

PTFE bearing surfaces are used to reduce friction when a line is being pulled through the open clutch. The aim is to make trimming and line handling easier before the clutch is closed and the load transferred from a winch.

Lower pull-through resistance is particularly valuable for short-handed crews because it reduces unnecessary effort during sail changes and reefing. Fair leads remain essential, as poor alignment can create drag before the rope even reaches the clutch.

Remote operation broadens installation options

The ZXB uses a toggle-and-button latching mechanism and can also be configured for remote operation. That gives designers and owners more flexibility when the clutch is positioned away from the normal working area or integrated into a more complex control-line layout.

Remote operation adds convenience but also introduces extra components that require inspection and maintenance. Owners should ensure the clutch can still be understood and operated safely if a remote line or control element becomes damaged.
