More than 500 watercraft filled the 2026 show
British Marine says the 57th Southampton International Boat Show brought more than 500 watercraft to Mayflower Park and its purpose-built marina. The ten-day event mixed production boats, personal watercraft, equipment and marine services, giving visitors a broad view of the current UK leisure-boating market.
For smaller-boat buyers, a large mixed display is useful because it allows direct comparison of deck layouts, propulsion choices, equipment integration and build details. Show numbers alone do not indicate sales performance, but they do demonstrate the range of products that manufacturers and dealers were prepared to present to consumers this season.
Boat and equipment launches were a major part of the programme
The organiser counted more than 25 World, UK and show boat debuts, together with 20 launches of marine technology, equipment and gear. Those figures help explain why Southampton remains important for owners who want to see new products before they become common in dealer stock or second-hand listings.
A launch at a boat show should still be treated as the beginning of evaluation rather than proof of performance. Buyers need verified specifications, realistic pricing, warranty details and, where appropriate, a sea trial before deciding whether a newly introduced boat or piece of equipment suits their own use.
91,160 visitors and thousands of on-water experiences
British Marine reports total attendance of 91,160 visitors across the 2026 edition, with more than 110 talks, workshops and demonstrations taking place during the show. The organiser also says up to 8,000 people went on or under the water through sailing, powerboating, paddlesports and diving activities.
That practical element is particularly relevant to leisure boating because many newcomers need experience as much as product information. Trying an activity, speaking with instructors and seeing equipment used in context can help prospective owners decide whether they need a boat at all, or which type of boat best fits how they expect to spend time on the water.
Southampton moves to an eight-day format for 2027
With the 2026 show complete, British Marine has confirmed that Southampton will return from 18 to 25 September 2027 in a new eight-day format. Mayflower Park is secured as the venue for at least the next three years, giving exhibitors and visitors a degree of continuity while the organiser reshapes the schedule.
For the industry, the shorter format is intended to concentrate visitor activity and reduce some of the practical demands of exhibiting. For boat buyers, the more immediate takeaway from 2026 is that Southampton continues to combine boats, equipment, demonstrations and on-water participation in one event, making it a useful reference point for the UK leisure-marine market.
