Sunlight readability is central to the SRT version

Seatronx’s SRT displays are intended for brighter helm positions and can be specified with high-output backlighting, while the related PHT models are aimed more at protected pilothouse installations. The SRT-19 combines a 19-inch screen with optical bonding and brightness control intended to keep information readable as ambient light changes.

That matters on open or semi-open boats because a display that looks excellent indoors can become difficult to read in direct sun. Brightness alone is not the whole answer, however, since reflections, viewing angle and the ability to dim deeply after dark are all important at a practical helm.

Touch control is paired with conventional video inputs

The SRT/PHT family supports projected-capacitive touch and common video inputs including HDMI, DVI, VGA and composite. That allows the monitor to be used with navigation processors, computers, cameras and other equipment rather than locking the owner into one proprietary display source.

A separate marine monitor can be useful when a helm needs a larger screen or when several systems must share display space. Owners should still confirm the resolution and interface requirements of every connected device before choosing a monitor, particularly in refit projects with a mixture of old and new electronics.

Marine certification addresses the installation environment

Seatronx lists ABS type approval, IEC 60945 certification and a sealed front panel within the SRT/PHT series specifications. The displays also operate from a wide DC input range, making them suitable for integration into normal marine electrical systems when installed in accordance with the manufacturer’s requirements.

Those environmental specifications are important because helm electronics face vibration, electrical noise, heat and moisture that ordinary desktop monitors are not designed around. A ruggedised display does not remove the need for good ventilation and weather protection, but it gives the installation a stronger starting point.

The 2026 award reflects professional installer voting

NMEA lists the SRT-19 as its 2026 Marine Display Product of Excellence winner. The association’s members and certified installers vote on the category awards, so the result reflects the experience of professionals who work with marine-electronics hardware in real installations.

For leisure-boat owners, the most useful takeaway is not the trophy itself but the importance of choosing a display around the helm environment. Screen size, brightness, night-time dimming, input compatibility and physical mounting all need to be considered before a 19-inch monitor becomes a genuinely useful upgrade.
