A family-focused Sea Ray at Fort Lauderdale
The SDX 270 Outboard is among the Sea Ray models appearing in the 2026 Fort Lauderdale exhibition directory. It offers a different use case from overnight cruisers, concentrating on easy movement, generous seating and equipment for a full day on the water.
The boat show opens on 28 October and continues until 1 November. Being listed by exhibitors does not mean the model has never appeared before, and visitors should distinguish an upcoming show appearance from an actual product launch.
Length and practical access
Sea Ray lists the SDX 270 Outboard at 29 feet 11 inches overall, around 9.12 metres, with a beam of 8 feet 6 inches or approximately 2.59 metres. The outboard version has its own dimensions, which should not be confused with the shorter sterndrive SDX 270.
The difference affects berth planning and the way a boat sits alongside a pontoon. Owners using a trailer should check total towing dimensions and loaded weight rather than relying only on the boat's advertised length.
One powerful outboard package
Standard propulsion is a 300-horsepower Mercury Verado V8 outboard with digital throttle and shift, according to the manufacturer's brochure. Sea Ray publishes an estimated 42–45-mile-per-hour top-speed range and 28–32-mile-per-hour cruise under specified testing conditions.
Those estimates are not guaranteed for every passenger load, propeller, hull condition or sea state. A sea trial and verified fuel-consumption information will provide a more realistic idea of operating costs for the particular boat.
Bow seating and flexible passenger space
The SDX range emphasises social space for family and guests, including a forward lounging area and seating that can be adapted to different activities. It is intended to support swimming, coastal outings and relaxed meals rather than a complicated overnight accommodation plan.
The boat's comfort depends on how safely people can move around when it is loaded with equipment. Families should check shade, grab rails, table positions and the route to swimming access during an in-person inspection.
Tankage for a day on the water
Sea Ray lists a 90-US-gallon fuel tank, approximately 341 litres, and a shallow draft of 19 inches with the outboard trimmed up. The standard brochure also describes available water-system equipment, which changes the facilities carried aboard.
Range calculations depend on the builder's test methods and actual fuel reserves. Owners should not use a published estimated range as a guarantee when crossing open water or heading to a destination without reliable refuelling.
Options should match actual routines
Different colour schemes, comfort bundles, entertainment options and water-system equipment allow the SDX 270 Outboard to be configured for the owner's needs. The sensible approach is to start with routine passenger numbers, storage needs and the waters where the boat will be used.
The most expensive equipment package is not automatically the best one for a family making short trips. A well-chosen shade arrangement, safe boarding setup and adequate stowage can be more important than decorative extras.
What to ask at the stand
Interested visitors should verify the installed engine and current model-year features on the displayed vessel. Dealer quotations may include transport and preparation charges, and not all published features are necessarily included in every market.
The show can provide a useful first look at the SDX 270 Outboard, but an independent on-water assessment remains valuable. A buyer should also check local service support, marina arrangements and any training necessary to handle the boat safely.
