Scandinavian Marine Takes Flexofold Distribution Across Australia and New Zealand

Scandinavian Marine Supplies has been appointed distributor for Flexofold sailing-yacht propellers across Australia and New Zealand. The agreement covers sales, technical advice and after-sales support for the Danish manufacturer's folding and feathering propeller range.

Flexofold products are used on sailing yachts where reducing propeller drag under sail is a priority. The range includes shaft-driven and saildrive versions along with spare parts and service kits.

Local support for a specialist product

Folding propellers are highly dependent on correct sizing, pitch and installation, so distributor knowledge matters more than with many simple accessories. Scandinavian Marine says it will support yacht owners, yards, riggers and dealers in both countries.

The company already represents a range of sailing-equipment brands, giving Flexofold access to an established marine trade network. Owners should still use boat- and engine-specific calculations before choosing a propeller rather than selecting purely by diameter.

Lower drag is the main attraction

When sailing, Flexofold blades fold close to the shaft or saildrive to reduce hydrodynamic resistance. Under power, the blades open to provide forward and reverse thrust in a similar role to a fixed propeller.

The trade-off is greater mechanical complexity and the need for correct maintenance. Regular inspection of moving components, anodes and fasteners remains important, particularly on boats kept in the water for long periods.

Distribution can matter as much as the hardware

For owners in Australia and New Zealand, the practical change is easier access to local advice, parts and service rather than a new propeller design. That can be significant when a boat is hauled out and replacement components are needed quickly.

The appointment also reflects continued investment in the sailing aftermarket despite softer new-boat conditions in some markets. Equipment support remains a large part of the leisure-marine economy because existing boats continue to need maintenance and upgrades.
