An October maintenance release with a specific fix
Raymarine has released LightHouse software version 5.0.127 for compatible Axiom 2 chartplotters, addressing two connected problems introduced in the preceding 5.0.126 build. The October 2026 release notes identify failed screen mirroring through the Raymarine mobile app and, on some larger onboard networks, devices that were not detected as expected.
This is not a second launch of the LightHouse 5 operating system, which was introduced earlier in the autumn. It is a focused corrective update, and that distinction matters to owners who have already read about the new interface but need to know whether their installed software could affect familiar bridge functions.
The manufacturer's history specifically says the two issues affected version 5.0.126 and were not present in LightHouse 4.11.133. That means a boat that has deliberately stayed on the previous generation of software should not assume the same symptoms are caused by this particular defect.
Why app mirroring and network discovery matter
Screen mirroring is most obvious when a helm user expects to view the plotter display from a phone or tablet. In a marina it may be used for setting up displays, checking data or reviewing a screen away from the primary helm, but a failed connection can be an unwelcome distraction if an owner has become accustomed to it.
Network detection is potentially more consequential than an inconvenient phone connection. Larger recreational craft often combine several multifunction displays with radar, depth sensors, cameras, autopilot components and engine information, so a failure to recognise a connected device can complicate a carefully configured helm even when the underlying equipment remains operational.
Raymarine attributes the discovery problem to the same software version as the mirroring fault, but its notice does not say that every affected installation will exhibit both symptoms. Owners should therefore use the release notes as a prompt to identify the installed build and check their particular system, not as evidence that every network problem has one cause.
Check your display generation before downloading
LightHouse 5 is limited to Axiom 2, Axiom 2 Pro and Axiom 2 XL chartplotters, according to Raymarine's update page. First-generation Axiom, Axiom+, Axiom Pro and Axiom XL displays remain on the LightHouse 4 software line and are not compatible with the new operating system.
The naming is close enough to invite an expensive mistake: Axiom Pro is a different generation from Axiom 2 Pro. Anyone uncertain which display is installed should identify the exact model and existing version in the system settings before selecting a firmware package.
Raymarine also warns that first-generation Axiom units running LightHouse 4 cannot network with Axiom 2 units running LightHouse 5. For a mixed-generation helm the manufacturer recommends remaining together on the latest compatible LightHouse 4.11 release, so the newest release is not automatically the correct answer for every boat.
There is an intermediate upgrade step for some boats
An Axiom 2 display running LightHouse 4.10.149 or an earlier build must first be brought onto a LightHouse 4.11 release before it moves to LightHouse 5. Raymarine cites version 4.11.133 as an example, making this a staged process for certain installations rather than a single leap from any previous software.
This matters to vessels that are used only seasonally or have spent months ashore during refit. An owner may find a comparatively old operating system on otherwise recent hardware, and the safest approach is to follow the manufacturer's sequence and read any model-specific instructions before changing software.
At the time of its October listing, Raymarine offered an update-only download of approximately 1.8GB and a wider networked-products package of approximately 4.2GB. Those are large files to obtain over a slow harbour connection, so a suitable internet connection, storage medium and unhurried maintenance window are sensible parts of preparation.
A practical pre-update checklist
Raymarine's own download conditions call for backups of important files and a reliable power supply throughout installation. On a working boat, a prudent checklist also includes exporting navigational data according to the manufacturer's instructions, recording the current software version and checking that the skipper has a safe opportunity to test the system after the change.
Firmware work is best done securely alongside rather than minutes before departure or in demanding conditions at sea. Interrupting an update can leave equipment unusable, and Raymarine states that damage from an incomplete upgrade is not covered by the manufacturer's warranty.
Once the chartplotter has restarted, confirm that the networked displays, mobile app mirroring and connected peripherals behave as expected. Raymarine additionally asks users to check for software updates for attached devices and accessories, because compatibility depends on the whole installation rather than the chartplotter alone.
For boats that regularly invite guest skippers or charter crews aboard, the distinction is also operational. A software version should be recorded in the vessel's familiarisation notes, along with where the crew can find the screen-mirroring settings and the steps for returning to the primary helm display if a companion device is unavailable.
There is no indication in the notice that the fix changes navigation charts, regulatory carriage requirements or the underlying safety responsibilities of the operator. Electronic plotters remain aids to navigation, so maintaining appropriate charts, keeping an independent means of establishing position and following the vessel's normal checks remain necessary regardless of which software build is installed.
What else is part of LightHouse 5
The September 5.0.126 build introduced a configurable Data app, a new data-sources interface, search for display data items and additional integration options for supported Mercury joystick and Skyhook systems. Those features remain part of the wider LightHouse 5 story, but the headline change in 5.0.127 is the correction to mirroring and network discovery.
Other resolved issues in the earlier release covered specific engine data integrations, route handling and system stability, as documented in the software history. Owners should avoid assuming that an improvement mentioned under September was first delivered in October, or that an update will remedy unrelated faults with damaged cables, missing power or outdated third-party equipment.
The clearest takeaway is straightforward: check whether a compatible Axiom 2 display is on version 5.0.126, review the October 5.0.127 notes, and plan an orderly update only when the whole network and its generation are understood. In marine electronics, the difference between 'latest' and 'appropriate for this installation' is often the detail that protects an otherwise excellent boating day.
