A compact camera for everyday boat monitoring

Raymarine has introduced the CAM400, a compact marine IP camera designed to feed full-HD video directly to compatible Axiom chartplotters. The camera is intended for both day and night use, giving boat owners another way to monitor areas that are difficult to see from the helm.

Typical positions include the cockpit, aft deck, swim platform and side decks, as well as utility spaces or a rear-facing view. A wide-angle image makes the unit useful for checking several parts of a smaller leisure boat without adding a large camera installation.

ClearCruise adds navigation context

When paired with Raymarine's AR200, CAM400 can support ClearCruise augmented reality. The system overlays information such as AIS targets and waypoints on the live camera picture, linking what the crew sees with navigation data already available on the boat.

That combination can be useful in busy harbours or when identifying traffic and marks from the helm. It does not replace normal lookout duties, but it can make information easier to interpret when several sources need to be checked quickly.

Designed around Axiom

CAM400 is built to work inside the Raymarine ecosystem rather than as a separate consumer camera. Owners using compatible Axiom displays can therefore view video without adding another dedicated screen to the helm.

For smaller leisure boats, reducing the number of separate devices can help keep the console simple. Integrated equipment is most useful when it saves space and makes routine checks easier rather than adding another layer of controls.

Pricing and practical use

Raymarine says pricing starts at $699.99 for the CAM400, while a package with the AR200 is listed at $1,449.99. That places it as a specialist marine product aimed at owners who want robust onboard monitoring rather than a basic action camera.

The strongest case for the CAM400 is practical visibility around the boat. Whether used for docking, watching the aft deck or adding context to navigation, the camera gives owners another tool for understanding what is happening beyond the immediate view from the helm.
