The next Axiom generation

Raymarine has unveiled Axiom 2 as the next generation of its multifunction chartplotter range. The new displays are aimed at sailors, anglers and cruising boat owners who want navigation, sonar and connected onboard systems on one screen.

A six-core processor sits at the centre of the upgrade, with Raymarine claiming startup is around ten per cent quicker and chart rendering around 30 per cent faster than the predecessor. Faster response can make a noticeable difference when panning, zooming or switching between data-heavy pages.

LightHouse Charts GEN2 on board

Axiom 2 launches with Raymarine's LightHouse Charts GEN2 and LightHouse operating system. The company says chart redraw, pan and zoom performance can be up to three times faster than on earlier generations.

More than 30 apps and expanded engine integration are supported, helping the display act as a central interface rather than only a navigation screen. Gigabit networking is also included for connecting other compatible equipment around the boat.

Choice of sonar hardware

Owners can select non-sonar versions or Axiom 2 RV models with a built-in 600-watt sonar. The RealVision option supports high-frequency CHIRP alongside DownVision, SideVision and RealVision 3D functions when paired with the appropriate transducer.

That makes the range relevant to both general cruising and more serious fishing installations. Buyers can choose the processing and display platform first, then match sonar capability to how the boat will actually be used.

Three screen sizes

Axiom 2 is offered in seven, nine and 12-inch sizes, making it suitable for compact helms as well as larger consoles. The display also uses Raymarine's HydroTough nano-coated surface and carries an IPX6 water-resistance rating.

A three-year warranty rounds out the package. For leisure-boat owners replacing an older plotter, the main attraction is the combination of faster everyday operation and a broader set of integrated navigation and sonar tools without changing to a completely different control philosophy.
