Priano takes responsibility for brand, product and marketing

North Sails Apparel has appointed Maurizio Priano as Chief Brand Officer, placing brand positioning, product development and marketing under one leadership role. The company says the appointment is intended to create a more unified direction across those areas as the apparel business develops.

Priano brings international experience across sport, branding and product. His brief also includes strengthening the relationship between the apparel operation and the wider North Sails group rather than treating clothing as a separate lifestyle business.

Sailing heritage is being brought closer to apparel strategy

North Sails Apparel says it wants to draw more directly on the brand’s roots in sailing, technical innovation and performance. That includes closer links with the Sailmaking and Action Sports business units so product and communication reflect the same performance culture.

The North Sails name began with Lowell North’s work in racing-sail development and later expanded into apparel in 1989. Priano’s challenge is to use that technical credibility without making the clothing business dependent only on heritage storytelling.

Marine brands increasingly connect technical and lifestyle divisions

Yachting companies often operate across equipment, sport, events and consumer products, creating opportunities for shared design language and marketing. When those divisions drift too far apart, however, the marine connection can become less relevant to customers who value authenticity.

North Sails is therefore using the new role to reinforce the bridge between performance sailing and consumer apparel. The effectiveness of the strategy will become clearer through future product launches and the degree of collaboration between the clothing and sailmaking businesses.
