Safety officials meet in Knoxville
The National Marine Manufacturers Association took part as presenting sponsor of the 67th NASBLA Annual Conference in Knoxville. The meeting brought together boating-law administrators, safety specialists and marine-industry representatives from across the United States.
Attendance was reported as the strongest in recent years, with more than 150 additional delegates compared with the previous event. That gave industry and regulators a larger forum for discussing safety priorities affecting everyday recreational boaters.
Ride Aware introduced
NMMA used the conference to introduce its PWC Ride Aware safety and education campaign. The programme is intended to improve awareness around responsible personal-watercraft use through education rather than relying only on new restrictions.
The organisation also argued for rules that are evidence-based and proportionate to actual risk. That approach matters because access, safety and enforcement can become closely linked when local authorities respond to incidents on busy waterways.
Manufacturing and on-water demonstrations
Conference participants toured a MasterCraft manufacturing facility to see recreational boats being built. The programme also included an on-water wakesurfing demonstration so officials could observe modern tow-sports technology directly.
Hands-on exposure can help regulators understand how equipment is used outside written guidance. It also gives manufacturers a chance to explain design changes intended to improve safety and control.
Keeping waterways open
NMMA used the event to emphasise public access as part of the boating-safety conversation. Safe boating depends not only on rules and equipment but also on launch facilities, education and well-managed places to get on the water.
For recreational boaters, the conference matters because decisions made by state administrators can shape licensing, operating rules and access. Industry participation gives boat owners another voice in discussions that eventually reach local waterways.
