New committee takes shape for the next two-year term
The National Marine Manufacturers Association has announced its executive committee for the 2027–28 term, with Aine Denari named chair. The appointment places a senior Brunswick Corporation executive at the head of the association's board leadership as boat manufacturers face changing purchasing patterns, cost pressures and regulatory questions in North America.
Denari, currently president of Navico Group and Brunswick's chief technology officer, is also the incoming chief executive of Brunswick Corporation. She succeeds Ben Speciale, president of Yamaha's US Marine Business Unit, who remains on the committee as past chair. The NMMA is the national trade association representing recreational boat, marine engine and accessory manufacturers.
A cross-section of manufacturing and equipment businesses
The association's announced executive team also includes Tommy Hancock of Sportsman Boats as vice chair, Ben Duke of Polaris Marine as treasurer and Craig Clawson of Magic Tilt Trailers as secretary. The mix of boatbuilders, propulsion-related businesses and trailer specialists matters because the issues facing boating businesses seldom stop at the factory gate.
A purchaser's access to a new boat can depend on financing, dealer support, ramp availability, storage and operating costs as much as on the craft itself. Engine and accessory makers confront supply chains and certification demands; boat manufacturers must manage shifting consumer expectations and production investment. Through its committee, the association can bring those different perspectives into its advocacy and research.
What it could mean for leisure-boat owners
The NMMA says its priorities encompass public policy, industry self-regulation and market expansion. These are broad objectives rather than specific commitments to change prices or laws. For boat owners, work on public waterway access and standards is likely to be the most visible connection between association decisions and day-to-day boating.
Denari's technology background also comes at a time when integrated helm systems, connected services and digital controls are more common across even relatively modest recreational boats. The industry faces the dual task of supporting innovation while keeping equipment maintainable and understandable for owners and service centres.
The newly named committee begins a two-year period during which those priorities will compete for attention with wider economic conditions. The announcement is therefore a leadership change, not a forecast of market performance. Its significance will become clearer through the association's decisions and policy positions over the next term.
