Modern Recreational Technologies has created a new Commercial Innovation organisation intended to connect customer feedback more directly with product development and commercial decisions. The structure brings together research and development, product management, marketing and digital commerce across the company's marine and fuel activities.

MRT says the change is designed to shorten the path between what customers are asking for and what the business develops or supports. That can matter in marine equipment, where service questions and field experience often reveal product issues long before a formal redesign cycle.

Customer insight is being moved closer to product decisions

Tom Maellaro has been promoted to Vice President of Commercial Innovation and will lead the new organisation. His remit includes turning customer and market information into product priorities, launch planning and support improvements.

Krystal Totherow has also been promoted to Director of E-Commerce, with responsibility for expanding how customers research and purchase products online. The company has made several additional leadership appointments across marine sales, business development and laboratory operations.

Digital commerce is part of the strategy

MRT's announcement treats online product information and purchasing as part of the same customer experience as sales and technical support. That reflects a broader marine-industry shift toward buyers expecting detailed specifications, compatibility information and ordering tools online.

For dealers and boatyards, better digital information can reduce time spent resolving basic product questions. It only works if technical data remains accurate and is updated as products change, so execution will matter more than the organisational chart itself.

What it means for leisure-boat owners

MRT operates in marine and fuel-related markets that ultimately affect everyday boat ownership, maintenance and marina operations. A stronger link between field feedback and product development could improve how equipment is documented and supported.

The announcement is an internal business change rather than a new consumer product launch. Leisure Boat Guide will therefore judge its impact by subsequent products, support tools and service improvements rather than by the reorganisation alone.
