A weather forecast can look favourable while the water outside a harbour tells a more complicated story. Lymington Yacht Haven has installed a live webcam on the Royal Lymington Yacht Club Starting Platform, giving boaters a direct view towards the western Solent.
The stream is available through the marina’s website and includes a 180-degree panorama. It looks towards Hurst Castle from the end of the Lymington River.
A view of conditions before departure
The camera can help people assess visible sea state, visibility and traffic in the immediate area. A live picture can be useful when deciding whether to investigate conditions further.
It cannot show every hazard or forecast how the water will develop later in the day. Tide, wind, official weather information and navigation notices remain separate checks.

The Starting Platform has long been associated with racing activity on the river. Locating the camera there places the view at a relevant transition between sheltered water and the more open Solent.
