A day for trying boating
Carrickfergus Sailing Club hosted a Women on Water festival with around twenty-five participants and over fifteen volunteers. The event used both onshore and on-water activities to introduce people to sailing.
The RYA’s May report records an established event rather than an invitation to a new September session. Future opportunities depend on the club’s own programme.
Changing the plan with the wind
Breezy conditions and chop prevented dinghies from going out onto open water. The team adjusted the programme while still providing practical learning and group activities.
That decision illustrates the value of a flexible plan at a training event. Participants should not assume a scheduled outing will go afloat regardless of conditions.
Experience without pressure
The programme brought participants together to build familiarity with equipment and the boating community. Volunteers supported the activity and helped keep the day welcoming.
