Technology used at the helm or in marine operations can be useful to smaller craft, but each product must be assessed for the actual boat and operating area. Shanghai-based TONJO will introduce its Intelligent Helm System to the US marine market at IBEX 2026, following its first installation aboard the Allegro Yacht 62CAT.

The original industry announcement documents the release, while this report considers its relevance to the under-twelve-metre boating market without assuming every model or installation is eligible.

Marine technology company TONJO is preparing to present its integrated helm platform to the US market at IBEX 2026 in Tampa. It will exhibit in the Yachting Ventures Start-Up Pavilion from 6–8 October as it seeks distributors and service partners.

The Shanghai-based company aims to bring functions normally distributed across several boat systems into one configurable interface. That integration is not a replacement for the crew's navigation procedures or the independent verification of critical information.

Navigation and onboard systems in one place

TONJO says the Intelligent Helm System combines navigation, engine and systems monitoring, lighting, climate and entertainment through a unified software architecture. It is intended to be adapted to different vessels rather than redesigned from scratch for every builder.

The approach may simplify helm layout, but critical controls must remain readily available and reliable. Integration also introduces questions about the resilience of display systems and the separation of essential navigation functions from guest-convenience features.

Automotive software moves into marine applications

Founder Chenglun Zhang has drawn on experience in intelligent vehicle platforms when developing the product. TONJO reported in September that it had orders for more than 500 units across Chinese boatbuilders, with an initial installation aboard an Allegro Yacht 62CAT.

Orders represent a production pipeline, not proof of hundreds of delivered vessel installations. The business is preparing to scale while extending the platform into international markets.

IBEX becomes a US launch platform

The company is seeking distribution and after-sales partnerships in the United States. Its planned presence at IBEX creates an opportunity for builders and marine specialists to review the system and discuss local technical support.

TONJO has also outlined an intention to establish a US subsidiary in 2027. That is a future company plan, not a claim that a completed domestic service network is already in place.

Questions for captains and builders

An integrated helm is relevant to new yacht design and to refits where ageing controls and display arrangements need to be reconsidered. A visually simple system can still require extensive technical integration beneath the surface.

Compatibility, cybersecurity, offline capability and availability of support are therefore central to any purchasing decision. TONJO's US debut adds another platform for the industry to examine ahead of the autumn marine equipment shows.

Not every capability described for commercial vessels or larger yachts will be available on a small leisure boat. The manufacturer must confirm compatibility, supported displays, sensors and any subscription requirements.

Electronic aids complement rather than replace safe watchkeeping and sound seamanship. Owners should check the relevant operating instructions and maintain independent means of navigation or communication where appropriate.
