A change to resource delivery
The RYA has updated its online trade shop so instructors, centres and marine retailers can purchase audiobooks and allocate them to a recipient. The feature is intended to simplify how training material reaches learners.
The July announcement covers audiobook delivery, not a change in examination standards or the prerequisites for a qualification. Course providers should still follow the current syllabus.
How an order is assigned
During checkout, a trade buyer enters the recipient’s name and email address against the chosen audiobook. The learner then receives a message with login information and instructions for using the RYA Books application.
This removes a separate distribution step for centres dealing with multiple students. Access still depends on a valid account, device and the publisher’s applicable terms.
Use in maritime education
Audio formats can support revision and make learning materials more convenient when reading a screen is difficult. They may be useful alongside practical teaching, diagrams and written navigation exercises.
An audiobook alone cannot substitute for practice afloat or demonstrate competence with a boat. Training organisations must decide how the resource fits their programme.

Not every publication is necessarily available in an audio format or to every type of purchaser. Centres should check the trade catalogue and recipient instructions when ordering.
