Two clubs gain provider status
Quoile Yacht Club and Newtownards Sailing Club became RYA OnBoard providers, according to a June RYA Northern Ireland release. Their addition increases the number of local entry points for young people.
OnBoard is an introductory programme for sailing and windsurfing rather than a competitive qualification. Individual sessions and places are organised by the participating club.
What OnBoard is designed to do
The scheme gives young newcomers a chance to try water activities without prior ownership of a boat or specialist equipment. Its focus includes confidence, enjoyment and the skills that come from learning together.
Families should ask clubs about the age range, supervision, booking requirements and what to bring. The original announcement does not establish that every session remains available on every date.
An opportunity around Strangford Lough
The two providers are located in Northern Ireland, adding local options for families interested in learning afloat. Sailing centres can be particularly useful where travel to a distant venue is a barrier.
Weather and the club’s own safety arrangements still determine whether an outing takes place. Early experiences should be suited to the participant’s ability.
Supporting continued participation
Introductory days can lead into regular club activity or further training if the young person wishes to continue. The programme gives families a way to explore that progression.
