Jimmy Green Marine will use the Southampton International Boat Show from 18 to 27 September 2026 to introduce two anchoring products aimed at making deployment and recovery easier on leisure boats. The Ankerplex Drop stainless-steel anchor is listed by the show as a world premiere, while the SnubberBuddy Quick Release Chain Hook will make its UK premiere.
Ankerplex Drop targets reliable self-launching
The Ankerplex Drop is designed to fit common bow rollers and bowsprits, with a balanced shape intended to promote smooth self-launching and fast seabed penetration. Jimmy Green says the fluke geometry is also designed to reset quickly when wind, tide or boat direction changes, which is a key consideration for boats spending long periods at anchor.
The anchor uses a patented weld-free mechanical interlocking construction rather than conventional welded fabrication. It is built from electropolished AISI 304 stainless steel and is offered in sizes from 6kg to 40kg, covering a broad spread of leisure boats from smaller cruisers to substantially larger yachts.
SnubberBuddy focuses on safer recovery
The SnubberBuddy is a spring-loaded quick-release shackle designed to attach a snubber line to the anchor chain without requiring the crew to manually disengage the hook under load. When the anchor is ready to recover, a dedicated release line can be pulled from the bow or led aft toward the cockpit so the fitting disengages before the chain is taken back onto the windlass.
Jimmy Green specifies compatibility with 8mm, 10mm and 12mm ISO and DIN anchor chains, using marine-grade 316 stainless steel for the fitting itself. The company quotes a 5,500kg break load and a 1,375kg working load, but owners still need to match the complete snubber system to the chain, rope, cleats and expected anchoring loads rather than judging the hook in isolation.
Why snubbing matters on smaller boats
A proper snubber transfers anchor loads away from the windlass and introduces stretch into an otherwise rigid chain system. On smaller boats, that can reduce shock loads, noise and the tendency for sudden snatch forces to reach the windlass gearbox or deck structure when the boat sheers or pitches at anchor.
The useful part of the SnubberBuddy concept is therefore not simply fast release but making a sound anchoring practice easier to use consistently. A quick-release fitting should never replace careful chain sizing, adequate scope and a correctly specified nylon snubber, but it can simplify the point in the process where crew often have to reach over the bow.
