A new digital role at the brokers association

The International Yacht Brokers Association has appointed Julian Gowing to oversee its digital services and support members using the organisation's technology tools. The appointment was announced on 16 October 2026.

Among the platforms under the role are Yachtr, Yachtbroker.org and Boatdox.org. They address different parts of marine brokerage activity, including listings and documentation.

Technology can streamline boat sales

Boat brokers must manage descriptions, vessel photographs, buyer enquiries, appointments and paperwork. A coordinated digital system can reduce repetitive administration and help ensure information reaches the right people.

However, the quality of a listing still depends on accurate vessel data and timely updates. Technology cannot replace a broker's responsibility to disclose material information and arrange appropriate inspections.

Gowing brings an industry background

IYBA says Gowing has more than sixteen years' experience working with marine digital services and about thirty years in the wider marine industry. The association also notes his work with brokers and dealerships across North America.

His remit includes helping members use the services already available to them. This is an appointment to an existing industry association, not the announcement of a new yacht brokerage business.

Documentation is central to trust

Ownership records, listing authorities, survey findings and transaction documents require careful organisation. Digital tools can make those records easier to locate and coordinate, provided permissions and data security are properly managed.

Prospective boat buyers should continue to request original documents where necessary and check claims about a vessel independently. A professionally presented listing is not proof that every technical or legal issue has been resolved.

Member support will be a practical test

The association says Gowing will assist with marketing, listings and documentation workflows. His effectiveness will be measured through the usefulness and adoption of those services rather than through the appointment alone.

For owners selling or buying smaller boats, the broader significance is the ongoing effort to modernise the brokerage process. Details of specific digital products should be checked directly with IYBA.
