A new show joins the Discover Boating calendar
America’s National Marine Manufacturers Association has confirmed a new consumer boat show for the Dallas–Fort Worth area. The Discover Boating DTX Boat Show will make its debut from 18 to 21 March 2027 at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center, adding a Texas event to the association’s industry-owned exhibition programme.
The organiser says the event will provide a marketplace in which local boat dealers can introduce new and returning customers to recreational vessels and related equipment. The proposed approach also includes experiences and education rather than relying exclusively on rows of new boats in an exhibition hall.
The announcement is particularly relevant to recreational boat buyers around the lakes of North Texas. A local show can help families compare layouts, towing requirements and ownership options without making a journey to a major coastal boating exhibition.
Why Dallas matters to the marine industry
NMMA reports that Texas ranks third in the United States for boating-related expenditure and has more than 625,000 registered boats. It attributes more than 11.8 billion dollars in annual economic impact and over 38,000 jobs to recreational boating across the state.
The association estimates that the Dallas–Fort Worth area accounts for approximately 179,000 registered boats and 1.9 billion dollars of the sector’s economic impact. These figures help explain why industry organisers believe the region can support a dedicated event over several consecutive years.
Texas offers varied boating conditions, from inland freshwater reservoirs to the Gulf Coast. The requirements of a lake-based wakeboat owner may therefore differ from those of a family purchasing a fishing boat or a vessel intended for longer coastal outings.
Dealers and marinas prepare for the first edition
The initial industry announcement includes support from MarineMax Dallas, OneWater Marine and Waterview Marinas. Those organisations see the show as an opportunity to connect existing customers with new boaters and make ownership questions easier to discuss in person.
Visitors considering their first boat should take advantage of that opportunity to ask about more than the list price. Suitable storage, launching facilities, trailer compatibility, safety equipment, insurance and ongoing maintenance can be just as important in determining whether a boat fits a household’s plans.
The show programme is expected to incorporate practical learning opportunities and product comparisons, but the final exhibitor line-up has not been announced. Buyers should not assume that a particular brand or model will be present until confirmed by the organiser or participating dealer.
Three years of dates have already been secured
NMMA says it has leased 300,000 square feet at the convention centre through 2029. The second show is scheduled for 16 to 19 March 2028, followed by the third event from 1 to 4 March 2029.
The long-term booking gives participating dealerships an indication that the event is intended to become a recurring marketplace rather than a single trial. It also allows potential visitors to consider attendance in the year most suitable for their boating plans.
For now, the March 2027 opening dates and venue are the confirmed points. As exhibitor registrations develop, prospective customers should check the official show information for tickets, opening hours, specific craft on display and any demonstrations requiring separate booking.
