A compact version of De Antonio’s open-boat idea

The De Antonio D29 is listed in the October 2026 Barcelona International Boat Show catalogue. The builder quotes 8.49 metres overall, with a hull length of 7.99 metres and a beam of 2.99 metres. That difference between overall and hull measurements is worth recognising when a boat is advertised or a berth is measured.

De Antonio positions the D29 as a successor in spirit to the D28, combining a wide open deck with the visual simplicity of concealed outboard propulsion. The concept appeals to owners who spend most of their time outside but still want a protected place to rest during a long day.

An outboard hidden beneath the rear deck

Engine options include single Mercury Verado V8 or V10 outboards and a twin-outboard configuration. The builder lists power options between 300 and 400 horsepower and quotes potential top speeds reaching 50 knots in appropriate configurations. These are conditional performance estimates, and an individual hull should be tested under its normal load.

The hidden arrangement creates a clean aft appearance, but service access still matters. Before purchasing, owners should check ventilation, inspection openings and how the engine and steering components can be reached. A neat architectural solution needs to remain workable for the technicians who maintain it.

Dayboat openness with a private cabin

The deck provides walk-around movement and social seating, while hardtop and soft-top options allow different levels of shade. Below, the manufacturer describes a forward double berth and a bathroom, making the D29 more versatile than a strictly open runabout. Ten passengers are permitted in the published arrangement, but that is not overnight accommodation for ten.

A buyer should examine the actual location of the heads, the ability to change clothes privately and the storage available for bags and watersports equipment. Such details help determine whether a weekend away will be comfortable or if the cabin is best used as an occasional retreat.

Questions for a Barcelona inspection

The builder quotes 360 litres of fuel and 88 litres of freshwater. The appropriate cruising distance will depend on selected engines, speeds and conditions, and should be confirmed through sea-trial data. Owners should also consider the beam when comparing the D29 with narrower six- and seven-metre alternatives.

The show provides an opportunity to evaluate a production model with distinctive stern design and flexible power. It is not evidence of a fresh world premiere. Prospective customers should seek a full specification, clear optional-equipment list and confirmation of warranty support before agreeing to an order. Even a relatively short open boat can benefit from a careful inventory of everyday items: anchor gear, spare lines, basic food preparation and safety equipment all require accessible storage. The practical cockpit should be judged with those things aboard, not as a completely empty display space.
