Chris-Craft has reworked one of its best-known leisure boats with a new generation of the Launch 27. The redesigned model was announced ahead of its Miami International Boat Show unveiling, with the builder describing the project as a bow-to-stern update that combines a new hull, revised interior and more contemporary onboard technology.
The current Launch 27 measures 27 feet 8 inches, or 8.4 metres, overall with a beam of 8 feet 6 inches. That keeps it comfortably within Leisure Boat Guide’s sub-12m scope while providing the dimensions and power options of a substantial premium dayboat.
A familiar model with a new layout
Chris-Craft has retained the Launch series’ open-bow character but redesigned the cockpit around greater comfort and social use. Wider helm seats can rotate toward the aft cockpit, while a concealed Bimini is standard and an electrically deployed version is available as an option.
The interior also offers multiple trim treatments, including teak-rich Heritage configurations, along with options for refrigeration, upgraded audio, a teak table and additional comfort equipment. The aim is to preserve the traditional styling associated with the brand while improving day-to-day usability.
Modern helm and power choices
A Garmin 15x3 ultrawide display with a Chris-Craft user interface is listed as standard equipment, with an additional seven-inch port display available. The electronics package sits alongside options such as a bow thruster, windlass and active trim depending on engine selection.
Engine choices extend to 430hp, with Mercury and Volvo sterndrive options listed by the builder. The standard specification starts with a 300hp Mercury V8, giving buyers a broad performance range without changing the basic 8.4m platform.
Day boating remains the core purpose
The Launch 27 combines a large open cockpit, swim access and extensive seating with a profile intended for day use rather than overnight cruising. Its redesign shows how established runabout concepts are being updated with larger digital displays, easier docking systems and more configurable comfort equipment.
Chris-Craft unveiled the new generation during the 2026 Miami show programme, adding another premium sub-12m option for buyers who want traditional styling paired with current propulsion and electronics.
