A smaller overnight boat at the international show

The Bayliner C21 outboard is listed for Barcelona International Boat Show in October 2026, joining the exhibition’s extensive selection of smaller powerboats. Bayliner gives its current C21 a length of 6.39 metres and beam of about 2.54 metres. The format is aimed at families who want an accessible day cruiser that can also provide basic sheltered overnight accommodation.

The model’s appeal is its manageable size rather than elaborate luxury systems. A boat of this length can be practical for short coastal outings when appropriately equipped and operated, although launching, storage and berth requirements must still be checked against local rules.

An outboard with multiple choices

Bayliner lists a maximum engine rating of 225 horsepower for the C21. A particular boat may be fitted with a lower-power Mercury outboard depending on dealer packages and how the customer intends to use it. Engine selection influences acceleration, fuel use, handling and the weight carried at the transom.

For families new to powerboating, predictable low-speed handling and safe boarding may be more relevant than top-end performance. The buyer should ensure the engine is compatible with the hull's rating and ask about warranty arrangements and servicing in the chosen cruising area.

Social seating and a useful cabin

The cockpit is designed around day use, with seating that can be adapted for relaxation and a small protected cuddy space below. Such an arrangement allows children or adults somewhere to shelter from sun or cool wind, and can make a short overnight trip possible without moving to a much larger cruiser.

A small cabin does not provide the same ventilation, privacy or facilities as a full-height wheelhouse. Owners should assess the actual sleeping dimensions and whether the boat’s portable or installed sanitary arrangements suit the intended journey. Correct stowage of equipment remains important.

The practical ownership calculation

A six-metre boat may be easier to handle and maintain than a ten-metre cruiser, but associated costs still extend beyond purchase price. Storage, insurance, safety gear, trailer arrangements where applicable and scheduled outboard servicing should be budgeted before ordering. The boat’s 9-person rating is a maximum permitted capacity, not a comfort recommendation for every passage.

The Barcelona exhibition provides a chance to inspect a current C21 and compare it with more open bowriders. It is an existing production model, not necessarily a new launch. The sensible choice depends on how often its cuddy space will genuinely be used. Some owners may place higher value on a boat that can be moved between inland lakes and sheltered coastal waters, provided transport limits and launching facilities permit it. Establishing the actual all-up towing weight is essential before selecting a trailer or towing vehicle.
