A compact new name on Valencia's waterfront

Balea Yachts, based in Dénia on Spain's Mediterranean coast, has placed its Balea 23 on the 2026 Valencia Boat Show's official boat list. It is a small open motorboat with an explicitly local proposition: make day trips, coastal passages and afternoons at anchor accessible without moving into the size and complexity of a cabin cruiser. The show listing puts the boat at berth AM-80 and describes a 2026 example. For a relatively unfamiliar brand, the public specification and an opportunity to inspect the actual hull are the more meaningful news.

At first glance, the Balea 23 occupies familiar Mediterranean territory. There is a central helm console, a T-top for shade, open movement around the deck and room intended for sunbathing and social use. Balea also names recreational fishing among the boat's roles. That combination asks the designer to balance circulation space, seating and working deck, rather than committing everything to a single activity. Buyers assessing the boat in Valencia should concentrate on how those competing uses coexist with passengers aboard, particularly the way people travel between the bow, helm and transom while underway or at a busy anchorage.

Why the published dimensions are not identical

The builder's own technical page gives an overall length of 7.45 metres, a beam of 2.2 metres and a fibreglass hull. Valencia Boat Show's marketplace entry instead lists 7.48 metres long and 2.22 metres wide. Those differences are small, but they are worth identifying because the figures come from two official places. They could reflect rounding, measurement conventions or details of the specific displayed boat. A buyer negotiating a berth, trailer or lift should ask Balea which dimension applies to the exact build and whether projecting fittings are included.

Balea's model page also specifies a 300-litre fuel tank, 70 litres of water, one bathroom and capacity for up to nine people. These are valuable starting points for a compact dayboat, but the legal passenger limit and practical load must still be confirmed from the plate and the applicable certification for the vessel delivered. Nine permitted occupants do not necessarily mean nine adults will be comfortable for a full day with bags, coolers and watersports equipment. An inspection should include every seating position, places to secure loose gear and the ease of using the toilet compartment while the deck is occupied.

The outboard choice deserves a careful reading

Power is another area where a potential buyer could misunderstand the headlines. Balea says the 23 can take a Mercury outboard rated up to 250 horsepower. The Valencia marketplace displays 225 horsepower in its summary field but describes its advertised example as equipped with a Mercury 200-horsepower engine. The 250-horsepower figure is the builder's maximum published option, while the other numbers relate to the show advertisement. A purchaser should obtain a written build sheet identifying the motor actually installed, its controls, propeller and any included rigging.

Engine selection affects more than headline speed. On a boat of this length, the way weight is distributed aft, the throttle response in a chop and the comfort of a moderate cruising pace may matter more than the largest available output. Balea has not supplied a verified speed-versus-fuel table in the sources reviewed for this report, so any promise about top speed, range or economy would be premature. The useful comparison is a sea trial with a representative passenger load, accompanied by measured fuel readings and a check of visibility when the bow rises onto the plane.

A deck arranged for several kinds of day out

The show advertisement describes a central console, T-top, extensive sunbathing space, teak-style flooring and Garmin electronics on the example being promoted. The equipment list should be treated as a description of that unit, not as a promise that every Balea 23 includes the same plotter, shade system or deck finish. The builder says buyers can select hull colour, upholstery, engine, navigation equipment and sound system, among other options.

For family coastal cruising, the arrangement of steps, grab points and shade deserves as much attention as the photographs. A T-top covers the driving area but may leave bow and aft cushions exposed during the hottest part of the day. People moving forward with the boat rolling should have a clear route and a reliable handhold; an attractive teak-look surface does not remove the need to assess grip when wet. Anglers will want to know whether rods, lines and bait can be managed without obstructing swimmers or passengers. These are practical questions for a physical visit in Valencia, not performance claims made by the builder.

How to interpret the show price

Valencia Boat Show's official marketplace lists the Balea 23 at 56,000 euros. The listing does not establish in the material reviewed here whether that is a tax-inclusive, fully equipped, drive-away price or the starting figure for a selected configuration. It also presents the 225-horsepower headline alongside the 200-horsepower example description. That makes a detailed written offer especially important. Buyers should request a clear breakdown covering the actual outboard, electronics, cockpit equipment, transport, commissioning, taxes and any warranty or after-sales arrangements, before treating the advertised amount as a like-for-like comparison.

A first-time buyer may also need to budget for storage, antifouling where relevant, annual service, insurance, safety gear and a suitable mooring. A compact open boat can simplify weekend ownership compared with a larger cruising yacht, but it does not eliminate the cost of keeping a vessel seaworthy. Balea's own website emphasises support from selection through delivery, maintenance and training; interested owners should establish precisely where that support is delivered and who will service the chosen outboard. The fact that the company is based in Dénia could be convenient for nearby Mediterranean customers, while buyers farther away will need a separate servicing plan.

What the Valencia appearance means for buyers

The 2026 Valencia Boat Show is scheduled for 28 October to 1 November at Marina Port Valencia, placing the Balea 23 in front of visitors during the event's closing weekend. For the builder, the listing provides a public platform for a new or emerging marque; for buyers, it creates the chance to reconcile the website specification with an identifiable exhibit. That does not establish sales volume, production capacity or independent handling results. It establishes that the boat and its advertised configuration can be discussed at a named event with a named seller, an important first step in a purchase that should still involve inspection and a test afloat.

The questions to take home are specific: which measurement controls the contract, exactly which Mercury engine accompanies the quoted price, what equipment is standard, how nine-person capacity is certified and what delivery and service commitments can be put in writing. Ask for drawings of the selected deck arrangement and weight limits as well. The Balea 23's appeal is straightforward on paper: a manageable Mediterranean open boat with configurable comfort, outboard power and mixed recreational uses. Whether it delivers the promised ease of boating is something the physical hull, the builder's paperwork and a calm sea trial must confirm.
