Aquila 36 Molokai returns to Fort Lauderdale
Aquila Catamarans has confirmed that its 36 Molokai fishing power catamaran will be part of its display at the 2026 Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show. The event runs from 28 October to 1 November, with Aquila's boats grouped at Dock E of the Bahia Mar Yachting Center.
The model made its original global debut at the 2025 Fort Lauderdale event, so this year's appearance is a return rather than a new world launch. Its inclusion gives recreational anglers an opportunity to study the updated fishing-focused layout alongside other power catamarans.
A purpose-built fishing platform
Aquila describes the 36 Molokai as a catamaran developed for offshore sport fishing while retaining space for ordinary family use. Its twin-hull design is intended to deliver a stable operating platform and usable working areas in the cockpit.
The boat builds on design themes established by the larger 47 Molokai, but within a considerably smaller package. Boaters choosing between the two should consider their normal crew size, berth arrangements and intended cruising distance.
Length and beam in perspective
The manufacturer's latest technical specification lists an overall length of 11.63 metres, or 38 feet 2 inches, and a beam of 3.59 metres. Although it carries the 36 designation, buyers should use the quoted overall dimensions when confirming marina space and other practical arrangements.
Aquila lists a loaded displacement of approximately 8,808 kilograms and a lighter condition of about 5,846 kilograms. Such figures vary with fuel, stores and equipment and are therefore more useful for initial planning than as exact operational weights.
Twin Mercury power as standard
The standard propulsion package comprises twin Mercury V8 300hp outboards, giving the 36 Molokai a combined rated engine output of 600 horsepower. The manufacturer has configured the boat around outboard power to preserve cockpit space and provide access to familiar servicing networks.
Owners should use the full engine and propeller specification to assess speed, fuel burn and handling under their typical load. The builder's information does not guarantee one top speed for every sea state and loading condition.
A flexible aft cockpit
An integrated tackle station makes the aft deck useful for preparing bait, stowing fishing equipment and handling a day's catch. Pull-out coolers offer another way to organise stores while also creating extra aft-facing seats.
For families who do not intend to fish on every outing, Aquila offers an optional summer kitchen and barbecue configuration. This flexibility helps the boat move between a working fishing platform and an entertaining space.
Comfort below the deck
Unlike some open fishing boats, the 36 Molokai incorporates a private cabin with a dedicated head, allowing two people to sleep aboard. This accommodation increases the range of uses, particularly for early starts or overnight stays near fishing grounds.
The cabin is not intended to turn the vessel into a large family cruiser with multiple private bedrooms. Prospective buyers should evaluate the actual berth size, storage and ventilation against their own expectations for overnight use.
Fuel capacity for offshore outings
The published tankage includes approximately 1,924 litres of fuel, alongside separate fresh-water and holding tanks of 80 litres each. Large fuel capacity is useful for planning offshore runs, but it must always be assessed with the actual engines, speed and weather.
Range should be calculated conservatively using measured fuel burn and an appropriate reserve, particularly when travelling far from shore. The article does not substitute for a passage plan or vessel-specific operating manual.
Taking a group on the water
The Aquila specification lists a maximum of 16 passengers, with lower limits applying under particular CE design categories. That figure is a maximum rating under defined conditions, not a recommendation to take the maximum number offshore in difficult weather.
Safe passenger numbers depend on the intended route, experience of the crew and the circumstances of each outing. Buyers planning commercial operations also need to verify any additional licensing or inspection requirements.
A broad catamaran presentation
Aquila's Fort Lauderdale display brings together ten models across several distinct ranges, covering sport boats, offshore fishing vessels and larger cruising cats. The company plans to showcase the 36 Molokai alongside the larger 47 Molokai and the newer 35 Sport.
Having the models in one location allows buyers to compare boarding, working space and accommodation rather than rely only on drawings. Visitors interested in a specific boat should arrange a viewing before arriving at the busy exhibition.
Planning the show visit
The official show runs from Wednesday 28 October through Sunday 1 November at multiple Fort Lauderdale sites. Aquila lists Dock E at Bahia Mar as the location for its catamaran presentation and encourages advance appointments.
The confirmed development for October 2026 is the manufacturer's forthcoming display of the existing 36 Molokai and related models. Prices, delivery dates and any sea-trial arrangements require direct confirmation with Aquila or an authorised dealer.
