A revised powertrain for a lightweight platform

Sea-Doo’s 2027 Spark range introduces the Rotax 1000 ACE engine with 60hp and 90hp outputs, adding an important mechanical update to the company’s lightweight recreation category. Unlike the separate Spark X introduced with a 110hp specification, the ordinary Spark remains focused on accessible ownership and compact dimensions. It is designed to make spontaneous short trips more practical than they are with a larger, heavier craft.

The manufacturer lists a US starting price of $7,099 for the two-seat model, before transport and preparation fees. A three-seat version starts from $8,699, with different configurations adding equipment or affecting price. Buyers should not assume that the cheapest advertised craft carries every option shown in promotional pictures, particularly when the two-seat model can be specified at different engine ratings.

Two seats or three changes more than capacity

The Spark for 2 measures 111 inches or 283cm in length and 46 inches or 117cm in width. BRP gives dry weights of 437lb for the 60hp version and 441lb for the 90hp model, approximately 198kg and 200kg. These figures make it notably compact, but they exclude fuel, the trailer and all onboard equipment that matter when evaluating a tow vehicle.

Spark for 3 grows to 120.6 inches or about 306cm, retains the 117cm width and has a dry weight of 452lb, approximately 205kg, in the basic specification. It offers a larger rear platform and LinQ accessory points. That extra length and capacity may be important for occasional passengers, but the owner should still confirm the legal passenger rules and operating limits before planning a family trip.

Fuel and the everyday use of space

Both formats use a fuel tank of 7.9 US gallons, equivalent to 30 litres. That is considerably smaller than the 70-litre tanks fitted to many larger Sea-Doo models, and owners should plan journeys accordingly. A small tank may be perfectly adequate for a short local outing, but it demands sensible reserves and a realistic understanding of consumption when carrying passengers or using repeated acceleration.

BRP quotes up to 11.8 US gallons or 44.7 litres of storage with the optional front bin fitted. The presence of the phrase optional is important, because a buyer may find that a photographed storage arrangement is not included in the base price. For everyday essentials, waterproof protection and proper load distribution remain relevant even on an ostensibly simple play-focused machine.

Controls and the equipment trade-off

The 2027 Spark uses a Polytec hull and a 4.5-inch display, with the manufacturer listing iBR Intelligent Brake and Reverse among its features. The lightweight design promises manageable towing and launching, but an owner should still practise precise low-speed control before entering confined waters. Any assistance from electronic systems must be understood in the context of jet-propulsion handling.

A convenience package adds features such as a boarding step, front storage, security key and variable trim, with the exact package arrangements differing between versions. These additions can affect how comfortable the Spark is to use after swimming or while carrying modest equipment. Buyers should ask for a written list of the included features rather than relying on a generic model description.

Who benefits from the new engine choice

The ordinary Spark may suit an owner whose main priority is a relatively easy-to-tow craft for short leisure sessions, while the three-seat version offers additional social flexibility. The 60hp option should be judged on its intended use rather than compared directly with much heavier high-output watercraft. Engine ratings alone do not explain the handling character of a different hull and weight.

The 2027 specification lists a one-year limited warranty under applicable terms. A complete ownership budget should include safety clothing, a compatible trailer, storage arrangements, insurance and service costs. The most practical purchase will be the combination of seating, power and convenience equipment that fits the owner’s actual routine, not necessarily the most expensive Spark configuration.
