A strong engine without the flagship price
Sea-Doo's 2027 GTR-X 300 occupies a distinctive place in the manufacturer's personal-watercraft line. Its supercharged Rotax 1630 ACE engine produces a quoted 300 horsepower, placing the craft firmly in the performance category, while a Polytec hull and a comparatively accessible entry price distinguish it from more expensive fiberglass-hulled 350hp machines. That makes the model relevant to experienced riders who want highly responsive acceleration without necessarily choosing the largest premium touring craft. It remains a powerful vehicle, and its affordability relative to a flagship should never be mistaken for novice-friendly behaviour.
BRP lists a US starting price of $20,099 for the 2027 GTR-X 300, excluding transport and preparation. The official imagery uses an Eclipse Black and Deep Marsala colour treatment, and the current product information emphasises a race-oriented riding position. Buyers comparing dealers should look beyond colour and headline power to the included electronics, sound system, accessories and warranty details. An invoice for a completely equipped unit can differ materially from the manufacturer's base price.
GTI-derived construction and key dimensions
The GTR-X measures 130.7 inches in length, or about 3.32 metres, with a beam of 49.2 inches. The dry weight is published as 813lb, around 369kg. BRP lists a GTI-family Polytec hull rather than the fiberglass ST3 hull used on some larger touring and performance models. This difference influences how an owner compares layout, operating weight and the intended riding feel. It does not provide a basis for declaring one construction universally better; the appropriate hull is the one that suits a rider's conditions and handling priorities.
The craft is rated for three riders and carries a 70-litre fuel tank, equivalent to 18.5 US gallons. Total storage is given as 40.3 US gallons or 152.8 litres, which provides room for normal leisure-day equipment when packed within the manufacturer's weight and security limits. The storage capacity is a convenience, not an invitation to overload the craft. Petrol consumption under repeated high-power use will differ from a moderate cruise, so a safe return reserve remains essential on every route.
Rider position shapes the experience
Sea-Doo equips the GTR-X with its Ergolock two-piece racing seat, which is designed to provide a more engaged posture under acceleration and during turns. The low riding position and X-Performance equipment are part of the model's character, combining a quick-response hull with a place for the operator to brace securely. The seat does not remove the forces felt when a personal watercraft crosses wakes or steep chop. Riders need to absorb movement with their body, look ahead for hazards and avoid trying to maintain high speed through conditions that are becoming uncomfortable.
A large rear platform with LinQ attachment points adds a practical side to the performance brief. That arrangement allows the owner to fit compatible accessories and may be useful on a day that includes swimming or spending time at a sheltered stop. Yet a 300hp performance PWC is not a small pontoon or deck boat, and passengers must remain properly seated while under way. Never operate the engine when someone is in the water near the jet outlet or intake, and be especially careful during docking and trailer recovery.
Instrumentation and on-water decisions
The manufacturer specifies a 10.25-inch touchscreen, bringing the GTR-X into the modern connected-control category. Its value is not confined to a polished display: readily available information and clear settings can help the owner monitor the machine. But a screen should be consulted only when conditions permit, and the operator's primary attention must remain on the water, traffic and route. A high-output craft closes distances quickly, shrinking the time available to respond to an unexpected floating object or crossing vessel.
Personal-watercraft owners should practise stopping and reversing under controlled conditions before visiting a crowded slipway or marina. The engine's performance rating does not tell the whole story of low-speed response, especially with passengers or a full tank. Operators moving from a much lower-powered rental should obtain suitable training and use a conservative first outing. Personal flotation, a correctly connected engine cut-off device and proper riding clothing belong to the essential equipment rather than the accessory list.
How the GTR-X compares with the 350hp alternatives
The clearest distinction is between the GTR-X's 300hp Polytec-based performance approach and the 350hp premium platforms with different hulls, comfort equipment and prices. A dedicated performance rider may prefer the GTR-X's lower entry point and active seating, while a touring owner may value the greater emphasis on passenger comfort elsewhere in the range. BRP lists a one-year limited warranty for this model, and local dealer terms should be verified. Evaluate launch logistics, maintenance, insurance and the intended route before treating a difference in horsepower as the defining purchase factor. The GTR-X is most convincing when its performance is matched with the judgement to use it safely.
