A family-oriented PWC with two power options

The 2027 Sea-Doo GTI SE is an interesting alternative to headline-grabbing high-horsepower personal watercraft. BRP offers the model with either 130hp or 170hp from the Rotax 1630 ACE engine family, allowing owners to balance performance, cost and their intended use. Both versions are positioned around ordinary days on the water: cruising, moving between beaches, swimming and taking passengers. This does not make the machine slow or exempt it from rules for fast craft; it simply places ease of use and practicality nearer the front of the design brief than maximum acceleration.

Sea-Doo lists the GTI SE 130 at a US starting price of $13,499 and the GTI SE 170 from $14,899. Those advertised figures exclude transport and preparation and may change according to dealer, market and accessories. Colour combinations include Teal Blue with Manta Green and Laguna Green with Eclipse Black. Buyers should confirm the actual configuration on the dealership's floor, because features such as audio and accessories can be offered in different packages.

Both versions share the same physical platform

The model measures 130.7 inches, approximately 3.32 metres, long and 49.2 inches wide. BRP says the GTI SE 130 has a dry weight of 741lb, or 336kg, while the sound-system configuration is listed at 761lb. The GTI SE 170 is given a dry weight of 761lb, around 345kg. The manufacturer uses its Polytec hull and rates both variants for up to three riders. For an owner, those figures have an immediate practical consequence: trailer suitability, ramp access and available storage should be checked with the combined loaded weight, not the published dry weight alone.

Both variants hold 18.5 US gallons or 70 litres of fuel and offer 40.3 US gallons, or 152.8 litres, of total storage. This is a generous carrying arrangement by PWC standards, useful for towels, small equipment and appropriately protected essentials. Storage volume should not be mistaken for limitless payload: the craft's total weight and passenger capacity still apply. Heavy items should be secured and distributed according to the manual, and anything that must remain dry should have additional waterproof protection.

The boarding and recreation equipment

Sea-Doo's description highlights a boarding ladder, touring seat and variable trim system on the GTI SE 130, along with optional Bluetooth audio. The rear swim platform also has LinQ accessory points, intended to support compatible equipment. These details are significant for beach-focused owners, because the ability to board after a swim or stow a modest amount of gear may shape everyday satisfaction more than a small performance difference. LinQ accessories and audio items should be checked for exact compatibility before ordering or fitting them.

The three-rider rating may suit a parent travelling with children or a couple carrying an occasional guest, subject to age, local licensing and safety restrictions. Every occupant needs a correctly fitted flotation device and must know how to hold on securely. A driver should never assume a small passenger has the strength or experience to withstand aggressive acceleration. The right passenger briefing and a moderate first trip are more useful than testing the engine's capability with a full load.

Choosing between 130hp and 170hp

The larger output may interest a rider who frequently travels with passengers or operates in conditions where responsive acceleration is desirable. The 130hp version offers a lower initial price and may be entirely adequate for the regular shoreline activities that define much recreational PWC use. Engine rating alone cannot predict actual fuel economy, so it is unwise to make a precise savings claim without comparable manufacturer tests on the same load and route. A dealer demonstration of both versions offers a better sense of throttle response, noise and the feel of the hull.

Both GTI SE models use a 4.5-inch display under the current specification, rather than the larger touch display fitted to Sea-Doo's most expensive touring and performance variants. That is a useful differentiation, not necessarily a drawback: buyers should ask whether they need a large connected interface for their usual riding. A simpler instrument panel combined with a comfortable boarding arrangement may be exactly what a recreational owner values. The trade-off deserves to be made intentionally rather than being discovered after purchase.

Ownership and safety considerations

The GTI SE illustrates why a family machine should be assessed as a complete system. The buyer needs a suitable tow vehicle and trailer, permitted launch sites, lifejackets for every rider, maintenance arrangements and a realistic understanding of local PWC rules. The manufacturer specifies a one-year limited warranty, subject to applicable conditions. Fuel capacity and generous storage do not justify an exposed open-water trip without checking weather, communications, reserve fuel and the ability of passengers. Choose 130hp or 170hp according to the journeys actually planned, then make sure everyone aboard can enjoy them safely.
