The practical end of recreational PWC ownership

Sea-Doo’s 2027 GTI 130 sits in the core recreation category, where versatility and straightforward handling matter as much as performance. The Rotax 1630 ACE engine has a published output of 130hp, substantially less than the most aggressive Sea-Doo performance craft. For many families, that is entirely appropriate: short cruises, swimming stops and ordinary leisure trips do not demand a 300hp engine to be enjoyable.

BRP lists a US starting price of $12,299 for the 2027 GTI, with transport and preparation costs excluded. The figure makes it more accessible than the larger luxury and performance models, but it is still only the beginning of an ownership budget. Trailer equipment, safety gear, servicing, launch fees and insurance can materially affect the actual cost of a season afloat.

Three places and a Polytec hull

The GTI 130 is rated for three riders and uses Sea-Doo’s Polytec construction on its GTI hull. BRP quotes dimensions of 130.7 inches in length, or about 332cm, and 49.2 inches in width, approximately 125cm. A published dry weight of 741lb or 336kg makes the GTI lighter than several more highly equipped touring models, although a full fuel tank and passengers substantially increase the real operating weight.

The 18.5-US-gallon fuel tank holds around 70 litres, while total storage is quoted at 40.3 US gallons or 152.8 litres. Storage volume can be especially useful on family trips, yet heavy gear must still be secured and carried within the authorised load. Waterproof bags remain advisable for phones, documents and anything that could be damaged by spray.

Controls designed for ordinary boating days

Sea-Doo includes iBR, its Intelligent Brake and Reverse system, in the GTI’s 2027 specification. The feature supports controlled manoeuvring but does not give a jet-driven craft the stopping characteristics of a road vehicle. Drivers need to practise approach speeds, observe the turning response and understand how wind and current affect the craft before entering a crowded marina or launch area.

The rear platform includes LinQ accessory points that can carry compatible equipment for a family day. Owners should check the specific accessory’s permitted load and mounting instructions, and remove items that interfere with boarding or safe movement. A conveniently placed platform can improve everyday usability, provided the engine is shut down when someone is near the stern in the water.

Why the base GTI differs from the GTI SE

The GTI SE adds features and offers a choice between 130hp and 170hp versions, but the standard GTI remains a distinct proposition. A buyer who mainly wants a stable, three-person recreational craft may not need the additional convenience features and higher price of the SE. The more useful comparison is between specific dealer configurations, including seating, boarding aids and the equipment actually supplied.

The 2027 GTI 130 has a 4.5-inch display according to BRP’s specification, another contrast with the large touchscreen on the flagship GTX range. A smaller instrument panel is not necessarily a disadvantage for short outings; the driver needs clear essential information and good awareness more than a complicated dashboard. The right fit depends on how and where the craft will be used.

A sound first-purchase checklist

A three-person rating does not mean three adults with baggage will always be within the manufacturer’s payload limit. Prospective buyers should read the capacity label, discuss passenger arrangements and check legal requirements for young riders. Properly fitted flotation devices and a cautious introductory session remain indispensable, regardless of the engine output.

BRP lists a one-year limited warranty, subject to its applicable conditions. Before purchase, an owner should confirm a suitable trailer, local launch availability, fuel costs and service arrangements with the dealer. The GTI 130 is most attractive to the buyer who values regular, manageable family recreation over the strongest acceleration figure in the catalogue.
