Surf Expo Shows Boating, Fishing and Paddling Gear Converging

Surf Expo’s Shoreline Outdoor category reflects a growing crossover between boating, fishing, paddling, camping and coastal outdoor gear.

Surf Expo’s Shoreline Outdoor section brought boating, fishing, paddling, camping and coastal-adventure brands into the same part of its September 2026 Orlando show. The organiser’s rationale is straightforward: people who spend weekends around water increasingly move between activities instead of identifying with only one sport.

That crossover is familiar to small-boat owners. A family that uses a RIB for beach trips may also carry paddleboards, fish from the boat, camp near the launch site and buy footwear or dry storage that has to work across all of those activities.

Retail categories are following real behaviour

Surf Expo described Shoreline Outdoor as a response to consumers who paddle one day, hike another and spend the following weekend at a lake. The September exhibitor mix included clothing, footwear, bags, coolers, fishing brands and other equipment intended to move between shore and water.

This matters because traditional marine retail can sometimes separate boating equipment too sharply from the wider outdoor market. Owners do not necessarily think that way when deciding what clothing, storage or accessories make a day afloat easier.

Versatility is becoming a product requirement

Gear used around a small boat often has to tolerate wet decks, sun, salt, mud and repeated transport in a car or trailer. Products that also work for paddling, camping or shore use can be more attractive than highly specialised items that spend most of the year unused.

The same logic applies to footwear and clothing, where quick drying, grip and sun protection may be useful across several activities. A crossover product still needs to perform its marine job properly, but versatility can reduce how much equipment a household has to own and carry.

Small-boat lifestyle is broader than the boat itself

The Shoreline Outdoor concept is relevant to LBG because an under-12m boat is often one part of a larger outdoor day rather than the whole destination. Fishing tackle, a SUP, a tent, a cooler or a camera may be just as important to the experience as the hull and engine.

That wider view also creates room for LBG Lifestyle to cover useful equipment without turning into a catalogue. The strongest stories are the ones that explain how people actually combine boating with other activities and what genuinely makes those mixed days on the water simpler.
