She is an RYA National Race Officer and is based in Whitehead. The programme offers a route towards further international qualification.
Experience is built at local events
Lewis has supported a group of female race officials at her club. The work includes bringing people into positions they may not initially see as open to them.
A race officer needs technical knowledge and an ability to communicate clearly under pressure. Mentoring and practical experience help develop those skills.
A selective development programme
The announcement reports eight places from twenty-two applications. Selection recognises the applicants’ potential and experience, not the award of a final international qualification.
Participants still need to meet the applicable requirements for progression. Their individual training and assessment will take place over time.
