Nordic RS Venture Camp Builds Skills and Confidence on the Water

Sailors from Norway and Estonia used RS Venture boats for a weekend of skill building, social sailing and inclusive participation at Ulabrand Sail Centre.

The Nordic RS Venture Sail Camp welcomed dozens of sailors from Norway and Estonia to Ulabrand Sail Centre for a weekend focused on learning, manoeuvres and shared time afloat. Participants arrived with different experience levels but worked through boat handling in the RS Venture while building confidence together.

World Sailing’s account places as much emphasis on the atmosphere around the sessions as on technical progress. That makes the camp a useful example of how inclusive sailing can support wellbeing and social connection without losing the satisfaction of learning real skills.

Progress can be measured in small moments

Sailing development is often made up of specific achievements such as a cleaner mark rounding, a better gybe or a more confident start. Those moments give participants a concrete sense of improvement that can be especially valuable when someone is returning to sport or trying an unfamiliar activity.

The RS Venture platform allows sailors and support crews to work together while still experiencing the responses of a proper sailing boat. That balance can make the activity both accessible and genuinely rewarding.

The social side is part of the programme

Participants travelled from several Norwegian cities as well as Tallinn, turning the camp into a meeting point for different inclusive-sailing communities. Time ashore after sailing gave people the chance to compare experiences and form connections beyond their own local club.

That network effect can help people keep participating because they know there are others facing similar challenges and pursuing similar goals. It can also give coaches and organisers new ideas to take back to their home waters.

Wellbeing does not have to mean passive activity

Time on the water is often discussed in terms of calm and relaxation, but wellbeing can also come from concentration, teamwork and mastering something difficult. Sailing offers all of those experiences while placing the participant in an environment that changes constantly.

For LBG Lifestyle, the Nordic camp demonstrates why wellbeing coverage should include active watersports as well as quiet escapes. Confidence, friendship and competence can be just as important as stillness in explaining why people keep returning to the water.
