It belongs in LBG's motoring coverage because a road trip can be part of a weekend away from the boat. It should not be confused with a sensible tow car for a trailerable craft.
A 646PS car with less weight
The reworked 4.0-litre V8 biturbo sends power only to the rear wheels and Mercedes-AMG says weight has been reduced by about 170kg. The engineering brief is focused on performance and driver involvement.
That approach is almost the opposite of the priorities for towing, where stability, approved trailer limits and practicality matter. Owners should keep the two use cases separate.
Only thirty cars will exist
The CLE 646 is the second model in the highly restricted Mythos Series. Its scarcity means most enthusiasts will encounter it at events or through media rather than on a dealership forecourt.
A collector car can nevertheless add interest to a motoring weekend around a boating holiday. Track events and concours visits can give non-boating companions their own reason to travel.
Choose the right car for the right day
A high-performance coupe may be ideal for a scenic road but unsuitable for launching a boat or carrying wet equipment. A second practical vehicle often makes more sense for the actual marina run.
