Porsche Museum Celebrates Final 718 Clubsport Race

A race car becomes a moving museum exhibit

A car may be used for the journey to a harbour, even if the boat stays at its destination. This motoring announcement is lifestyle coverage and does not itself establish trailer-towing suitability. Porsche Heritage and Museum has created a special 718 Cayman GT4 RS Clubsport whose livery draws directly on the architecture of its Zuffenhausen museum. The car appeared in the six-hour Nürburgring Endurance Series race on 1 August 2026 with Porsche ambassadors Timo Bernhard and Jörg Bergmeister sharing the drive.

The entry finished fourth in class, giving the anniversary machine a genuine competition appearance before its intended place in the company collection. The manufacturer describes it as a tribute to 75 years of Porsche motorsport, not a road-legal limited edition.

Design details from the building

Matte white surfaces echo the museum's façade, while black bands reflect its windows and grey panels suggest the surrounding forecourt. A diamond-patterned graphic recalls the aluminium exterior and a silver line traces the sculpture outside the museum.

Even the lettering follows the building's own typography, turning an architectural landmark into a race livery. The connection is deliberate, not a collection of sponsor graphics added without a design theme.

A journey through the production network

The project began with a prepared body shell in Zuffenhausen, moved through race-specific structural work and assembly at Osnabrück, and was completed with setup and testing at Manthey Racing near the Nürburgring. Porsche says Heritage and Museum followed the process from the start rather than receiving the finished vehicle after the race.

The GT4 RS Clubsport uses a high-revving six-cylinder boxer engine and racing aerodynamics, while the stripped interior is designed for competition. As a specialised motorsport product it is not directly comparable with a standard 718 road car.

The final mid-engined chapter

Porsche describes this 982-generation Clubsport as the last mid-engined racing car built in Zuffenhausen, with its homologation continuing to 2027. The company says the next GT4 race car will move to a 911-based platform, making this anniversary example a marker in the customer-racing lineage.

The official photograph shows the actual museum-liveried car and its drivers. The project is a heritage and motorsport story with a confirmed Nürburgring appearance, not a claim about a future race result.
