The new full-electric Jeep Compass 4xe combines four-wheel drive, 372-mile WLTP range and off-road hardware aimed at people carrying equipment into less accessible places.
Jeep has opened UK orders for the new Compass Full-Electric 4xe, giving the compact SUV four-wheel drive and up to 372 miles of WLTP range. For leisure boaters, the relevant part is not simply that another electric SUV has arrived, but that Jeep has equipped the 4xe for muddy access roads, waterside parking and outdoor equipment carrying.
The model has 210mm of ground clearance and a quoted wading depth of 480mm, alongside approach, breakover and departure angles intended for rougher terrain. Those figures do not make it a tow vehicle for every boat automatically, but they are useful where boating weekends include unmade roads, wet launch sites or campsites beyond normal tarmac.
Upland specification targets practical outdoor use
The Compass 4xe Upland comes with mud-and-snow tyres, off-road bumpers, roof rails and a rear towing hook as standard. Jeep also fits black 19-inch wheels, front fog lights and protective exterior details intended to cope with dirt and regular outdoor use.
A towing hook is only one part of trailer suitability, and owners still need to check the vehicle’s approved braked-trailer rating against the complete boat-and-trailer weight. LBG will keep that distinction clear because a visually rugged SUV is not automatically suitable for every trailer boat.
Electric range matters when the launch site is remote
Jeep quotes up to 372 miles of WLTP range for the Full-Electric 4xe, with an 11kW three-phase onboard charger and heat pump supporting charging and efficiency. Real towing or heavily loaded use will reduce range, so route planning remains particularly important when a boat trailer is attached.
Charging layout matters too because some public chargers are difficult to enter with a trailer. Owners planning longer trips should think about where they can stop without blocking other bays or needing to unhitch in an unsuitable location.
Cars are part of the small-boat ownership system
For trailerable boats, kayaks, paddleboards and camping gear, the vehicle is often as important to the weekend as the boat itself. Roof carrying, traction, luggage space and the ability to reach a rural launch point can determine whether a planned day afloat is straightforward or frustrating.
