Those figures help when planning a shared outing, but they do not tell a couple how the kayak will feel under their particular load. Seats, bags and other equipment should be positioned to maintain sensible trim.
The value of one pace
Two people can talk and enjoy the same views while sharing propulsion and steering responsibilities. It can suit a scenic lake loop, a sheltered estuary or an arranged holiday hire rather than a journey that demands racing technique.
The route should still have a workable return plan if one passenger becomes tired. Changing wind or current can make the final leg harder even when the launch was calm.
