Start with suitable water
A designated watersports area with enough room for the boat to turn and stop is preferable to a busy anchorage. The driver should confirm local speed, towing and wake restrictions before a rider enters the water.
Wake-making can affect other boaters and the shoreline, so operating distance matters even when a boat has a dedicated surf system. A crowded cove is not a suitable substitute for an approved area.
Set the crew roles
One person drives, another watches the rider continuously, and the rider agrees simple signals before the first pass. An experienced instructor is useful for the first session, especially when choosing a line and working with the boat’s setup.
Use an appropriate lifejacket or other suitable approved buoyancy and keep clear of the propulsion system. Wakesurfing boats require the manufacturer’s intended drive and operating arrangements; never improvise with a conventional exposed propeller.
Keep breaks part of the plan
A session can alternate short rides with water, food and rest in the cockpit. Family members who do not surf can still enjoy the outing without feeling obliged to enter the water.
The actual boat’s passenger capacity, ballast and equipment affect how it handles. Added load belongs within the manufacturer’s limits and must be managed for the conditions.
A careful finish
Remove the tow line from the water and bring the rider aboard at a safe stopping position according to the operating manual. Inspect gear and dry it before packing for the next day.
